Give in to the stardom, little comet, come closer and be careful not to burn.
Join the Little Comet in this cautionary space tale about the dangers of stardom as it gets separated from her Momet to meet her favorite star The Sun. The story takes the little comet through our Solar system, around all nine planets, and eventually for a sunbathing burn in a quick puff at the Sun. Light in tone, heavy in puns. Perfect to play with your kid or a stoned friend.
The story of the little comet was in my sketchbook for a while, before I decided to explore it as a videogame. It always seemed more suited to be a children's book story, rather than anything else.
You play as Little Comet who separates from its mother comet (Momet) and its siblings when awed by our system's Sun. Little Comet has a tiny nightcap which makes for the signature ice trail, bad asteroids are called Gangsteroids, big boss is Steroidsteroid, you get to visit Uranus which has a problem with gas... you see where this is going. Nothing too difficult, on the nose humor.
This was one of the first project where I took a bit more time to understand shaders to get the look I was after. I wish I could tell you I got there in the end, but not really. Somewhat?
By the end of January 2020 my personal life took a wild 180 and Brightstar abruptly ended up my last project.
Brightstar is a bittersweet project for me. Towards the end of 2019, I have already been running out of money, while working too hard to realize I was also burned out or that my relationships were in shambles. Maybe for that very reason, I needed a lighthearted story and found an escape in just another project, instead of finishing the ongoing .
