Wishful Wishing

I wish for what I cannot have

for what one day

we can share

the coins

the rage

the empathy

that only comes with age.

I wish I had that now

I wish at least I had you

to join me

in my wishing

if only you existed.

I wish for fame

money, drama, fun

and laughter,

good days, bad days,

sweet and sour,

salty chips, chocolate cookies,

name it and I want it.

I wish I had all that now

I know I know

I wish for much

to trick the fairy

so she’ll grant me at least one wish

and you know which wish that is.

One thing I don’t wish for is love as the love I’ve got

plenty and more to share

even though your gravestone

is seeded with decades of roses.
