Classic point-and-click adventure game with a focus on personal arty style and tying in the theme of the personal brand, as required by my final year at the University.
Back in Uni I have continued to sneak in videogames any time I could. For example as my final thesis I researched whether User Interfaces in videogames are Art (John Blow told me "no").
Symbol came about the same way. We had to primarily focus on art and design (it was a design degree after all) but as long as that's met I can approach it however I want. So a game I made.
Historically, while I enjoy and grew up with point-and-click adventures I found them the lesser genres to be developing. There's not much gameplay, and if there it's simple and it's all mostly story, at which point I'd rather watch a movie or read a book. With that said, they are simple enough to make yourself one.
Today 10 years later in 2023 the market is different. Visual novels have become a little more involved and videogame development a lot lot easier.
I have showcased the game as part of the final project show. The game had gone through 0 playthrough testing and as expected the players at the show couldn't get past the first screen. With some help at least a handful hopefully had a good time.
The game was made in engine (I think at least). The source code is somewhere on a CD, not likely to load, so the above gameplay is all that's left of the project.
